Carlos M. Madrid Casado cerrará el ciclo de charlas de Política y fracasos de la revolución digital con la conferencia «Filosofía de la Inteligencia Artificial» (Pentalfa, Oviedo 2024).

Al tiempo que se desarrolla, la inteligencia artificial moviliza ideas filosóficas que es preciso someter a una crítica demoledora. Ideas como las de inteligencia, razón, mente, hombre o máquina, y mitos como el de la singularidad tecnológica, que anuncia el advenimiento de robots superinteligentes. Pero, ¿es la inteligencia artificial una ciencia? ¿Es ChatGPT realmente inteligente? ¿Comprenden los enormes modelos de lenguaje el significado de las palabras que emplean? ¿Pueden las máquinas llegar a sustituir a los médicos o los científicos de carne y hueso? ¿Es posible una inteligencia artificial general sin cuerpo? ¿Son personas los algoritmos o los robots? ¿Resultan operativas las normativas éticas aventadas por la Unión Europea y otros organismos internacionales? ¿Qué intereses geopolíticos ocultan los grandes gigantes tecnológicos? Frente al tsunami de opiniones que diariamente se vierten sobre la inteligencia artificial, Carlos M. Madrid Casado ensaya una filosofía de la inteligencia artificial desde las coordenadas del materialismo filosófico, articulada en tres partes: gnoseología, ontología y tecnoética. El resultado es una obra que contiene un tratamiento sistemático del campo de la inteligencia artificial.

Carlos M. Madrid Casado. Filósofo español, investigador asociado de la Fundación Gustavo Bueno. Ha sido profesor de estadística en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y es profesor de matemáticas en un instituto de enseñanza secundaria y bachillerato en Madrid. Licenciado en matemáticas y doctor en filosofía con la tesis defendida el 19 de febrero de 2009 en la Facultad de Filosofía de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, titulada La equivalencia matemática entre mecánicas cuánticas y la impredecibilidad en la teoría del caos. Dos casos de estudio para el debate realismo-instrumentalismo, realizada bajo la dirección de Andrés Rivadulla, ante un tribunal formado por Fernando Bombal, Ana Rioja, Luis J. Boya, Antonio Diéguez y Miguel Ferrero, calificada sobresaliente cum laude por unanimidad.
Varios de sus libros han sido reeditados en Hispanoamérica y traducidos a otras lenguas: Motyl i tornado (BUKA Books Sławomir Chojnacki, Varsovia 2012), The Butterfly and the Tornado. Carlos M. Madrid Casado will close the series of talks on Politics and failures of the digital revolution with the conference “Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence” (Pentalfa, Oviedo 2024).

As it develops, artificial intelligence mobilizes philosophical ideas that must be subjected to a devastating critique. Ideas such as intelligence, reason, mind, man or machine, and myths such as the technological singularity, which announces the advent of super-intelligent robots. But is artificial intelligence a science? Is ChatGPT really intelligent? Do the huge language models understand the meaning of the words they use? Can machines ever replace doctors or flesh-and-blood scientists? Is general artificial intelligence possible without a body? Are algorithms or robots people? Are the ethical regulations ventured by the European Union and other international bodies operational? What geopolitical interests are hidden by the great technological giants? Faced with the tsunami of opinions that are poured daily on artificial intelligence, Carlos M. Madrid Casado rehearses a philosophy of artificial intelligence from the coordinates of philosophical materialism, articulated in three parts: gnoseology, ontology and technoethics. The result is a work that contains a systematic treatment of the field of artificial intelligence.

Carlos M. Madrid Casado. Spanish philosopher, associate researcher of the Gustavo Bueno Foundation. He has been a professor of statistics at the Complutense University of Madrid and teaches mathematics at a secondary school in Madrid. He has a degree in mathematics and a PhD in philosophy with the thesis defended on February 19, 2009 at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Complutense University of Madrid, entitled La equivalencia matemática entre mecánicas cuánticas y la impredecibilidad en la teoría del caos. Two case studies for the realism-instrumentalism debate, carried out under the direction of Andrés Rivadulla, before a panel formed by Fernando Bombal, Ana Rioja, Luis J. Boya, Antonio Diéguez and Miguel Ferrero, unanimously qualified outstanding cum laude.
