Alice Falasco and the Metamorphosis of the Body in the Digital Age

Alice Falasco, a student of BAH Graphic Design & Digital Media at LABA Valencia, has presented an essay delving into an analysis of identity, bodily transformation, and the impact of technology, based on two books and two films that have shaped contemporary debate: El monstruo que os habla, The Substance, Manifesto Cyborg, and Crimes of the Future.

El monstruo que os habla by Paul B. Preciado and Manifesto Cyborg by Donna Haraway explore identity and the body from a philosophical and feminist perspective, challenging the boundaries between the human and the technological. In cinema, The Substance by Coralie Fargeat and Crimes of the Future by David Cronenberg tackle bodily transformation through horror and science fiction, questioning the impact of biotechnology and surgery on human evolution.

Under the guidance of professor Ismael Chappaz in the Contextual Studies Advanced Investigation course, Falasco makes bold connections with contemporary pop culture, exploring the nihilism of BoJack Horseman and the underground phenomenon of filler parties—events that redefine the body as a constantly evolving canvas. Her essay not only reviews these works but interweaves them with a critical perspective through the lenses of science fiction, philosophy, and visual arts.

LABA Valencia thus establishes itself as a space of reflection and avant-garde thinking, where students not only learn design and digital media but also immerse themselves in the most pressing debates of our time.
