Testimony of Giulia
Gelain, LABA Firenze
alumni
My name is Giulia Gelain. I was born 26 years ago in Biella. After graduating from the Liceo Scientifico Biologico in Livorno and driven by my passion for Art History and Design, I moved to Florence in 2013 to study Design at LABA.
Currently I am working as a Producer and Interior Designer in the technical office of a furniture company. With the help of graphics programs and CAD software for 2D and 3D design and modeling, I take care of the development and presentation of projects for the production department and new digital content such as renders. In parallel, I work as a product designer and technician in a rapid prototyping and design studio of which I am a partner.
The experiences at the LABA in Florence have helped me to grow not only professionally but also and above all personally. The practical and theoretical courses taught by competent professionals in the sector have allowed me to create a working method that I apply in the workplace.
I have learned that an idea comes when you least expect it and that although technology and the computer are indispensable and practical tools, the most immediate way to shape my thoughts is to draw on a sheet of paper. Some of the best ideas come from simple doodles. I am always equipped with a notebook or notepad where I transcribe my thoughts
Personally, I believe that every project contains equally a component of satisfaction and disappointment. A valid idea may take time to arrive or a creation does not always reflect expectations
Creating and designing is not considered solely and exclusively a job, but a source of pleasure and a good way to have fun and express who I am. As on a trip, I do not enjoy the destination alone, but the whole journey.
