Cinema, digital creation and new audiovisual formats took center stage on September 24 and 25 at the opening of the new academic year at LABA Valencia. The program brought together short films, documentaries, multimedia installations, fashion films and motion graphics projects created by makers connected to the school.
The first of the two days, Thursday 24, was dedicated to cinema. From 7 PM, the program screened La casa de los espejos, by Anna Castellanos; Me and My Horny Sisters, by Marlene Zeise; and Joyeux Anniversaire, by Melissa Pasquier. These three short films by LABA graduates opened the audiovisual program.
Friday 25 brought together many of the multimedia creation projects, with the opening of LABA Valencia Lab, a new space dedicated to audiovisual and digital experimentation.
The day began with À travers vos âmes, a multimedia installation by Soline Le Morvan Idrac, and continued with a showcase of motion graphics work that explored different approaches to animation, digital imagery and audiovisual storytelling.
The selection included Cascades, by Arna Lea; Bound by a Thread, by Marina Murillo; Oneeria, by Candela Mataix; Expedición Magallanes y Elcano, by Lucas Domínguez; Memories in Motion, by Weronika Pik; and Code + AI, by Cosette Reyes Guzmán.
From 7 PM, the program returned to the screen with Raras, the documentary directed by Diana Maroto, and Lo que no se dice, a documentary making-of by Santiago Pabón. The closing, at 8 PM, featured two works in different formats: Prisma, a fashion film by Sebastián Giraldo, and Misantropía, the medium-length film directed by Besel Said.
Together, the two days offered a journey through some of the lines running through audiovisual creation today, from short films and documentaries to digital installations, animation and hybrid formats linked to fashion or technology.
LABA Valencia offers education in fields such as design, photography, film, sound, digital media and technologies applied to creation. Among its public initiatives is also MICME, a festival dedicated to interactive art and contemporary technological projects.
