«MARGO» is the Final Major Project de Cosette Reyes, Digital Media graduate from the first promotion of LABA Valencia.

Cosette has developed a contemporary art and design project focused on outsider art. The social context of outsider art is marked by marginality, self-expression and the need for liberation and communication through art. Outsider artworks are often characterised by their authenticity and uniqueness, as they are created outside of conventional artistic trends and social norms.

“Outsider art is associated with people who lived in psychiatric institutions or with mental disorders. It is related to the interest in primitive and tribal art that influenced the avant-garde movements of the 20th century. 

The choice of the name of this hybrid space is based on the fact that the meaning of the Latin word «margo» is «outside», which evokes the essence of «outsider art», a concept conceived to describe art created outside the boundaries of official culture.”

In this work Cosette has articulated the digital format with the physical in a constant dialogue. On the one hand, the digital environment can be explored at www.margozine.art, a website that showcases the artists, their pieces, expert testimonials and opens up dialogue on the controversial topics that outsider art brings with it. On the other hand, the printed fanzine is Margo’s tangible space that offers a sensorial and immersive experience through materials carefully selected to give coherence to each of the contents offered quarterly in an artcase that exposes a series of artists with their works and fascinating stories that enrich each edition.

Overall, MARGO Outsider Art is the design of a hybrid space offering a particular vision on contemporary art, as well as an innovative way to interact with outsider art and design by bridging the barriers between the digital and the tangible.
