Introduction to still life photography
Throughout this workshop focused on ‘Still Life’ we will cover everything from the origins of this photographic style to the different types of still life photography: from ‘arty’ to commercial and product photography. I will show you photographers, creative studios and set designers which are all benchmarks in this style. We will look at the key elements to develop this technique needed for commercial orders as well as personal ‘arty’ projects.
We will delve into the real production process of an order by looking at a client`s briefing, focusing on the analysis of this document to form an efficient strategy of our proposal.
We will learn how to make a counter briefing (Synthetic Visual Universe) highlighting the importance of the creative concept, storytelling and showing details with benchmark mood boards, set design, a range of chromatic pallets and finishing images (postproduction). Our goal is to efficiently convey to our client our creative proposal and the visual style our still life images will have, whilst always respecting the philosophy and tone of their brand to stand out from their competition.
Objectives
The objective of this workshop is to show the basis of this photographic style so the students can benefit from all its advantages to improve their product photography as well as their personal projects based on the technique of still life.

Brands that work through e-commerce (online shops) and would like to show their products in a more attractive way to their targeted customers, product photographers, Art directors and creative individuals.

Lecturer
Álvaro Peñalta Durán (born in Zaragoza, 1987), an Advertising and Audio-Visual Communications graduate, and an Art Direction graduate from Elisava, Barcelona.
I am an Art director and a creative artist. I founded my own studio ‘Súper Fuerte’ in 2020 after doing freelance work for several years. I have worked with clients such as Ajuntament de València, Lola Índigo, Visa, À Punt, Benetton, Felipe Pantone, and agencies like McCann and audio-visual production companies like Lee Films.
When I am in between commercial orders I like to develop personal projects, an area in which I can work without a filter of a client or an agency. Although I work in video media my true passion is editorial and product photography. I like working on everything from the creative concept, to the art direction and post production of each photograph. I enjoy telling stories through my images so that they do not go unnoticed.
