Interview with Antonio Savinelli, professor at LABA Valencia
Meet Antonio Savinelli, Faculty member:
“I’m a filmmaker specialized in direction, production and script writing. Author of numerous short films, documentaries and video art selected at important festivals. In parallel, I have developed my career in the world of communication and advertising, shooting advertising campaigns for tourism, fashion, and making corporate videos. I have extensive experience as a professor of cinema in different schools and universities. The feature film En la ciudad sin brújula is my first film, and the documentary short film Los días que pasan my most recent work. I am passionate about the audiovisual world, always seeking excellence in every job I do and, being a multidisciplinary professional I can undertake a wide range of projects.”
“I’d define the subject of Digital Video as: Learning by creating. The subject is entirely practical and ideas are stimulated to be further developed, to be recorded to recognize errors, improved with training. You learn about directing while editing, the script is improved during shooting, and creation is always in accordance with production. Values are not being questioned or judged. The important thing is to accompany the students and enhance their virtues to make the most of each one’s talent. Orient them, motivate them and use the different technological tools that they have available, to transmit an idea and a style, whether it is for an advertising spot, short film, video art, documentary, reportage, etc. In Digital Video you learn on the one hand about composition, camera shots and angles, movements, lighting, editing, production, sound, etc.. And, on the other hand: what do we want to tell? And how do we tell it? The subject of Digital Video gives access to countless professions because video (motion image) is becoming more and more relevant in today’s world. Everything is moving image and in today’s professions there is an increasing demand for of Digital Video.”
“Current authors I’m interested in are Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Lucrecia Martel, Victor Erice, Nanni Moretti, Terrence Malick. And older authors: Luis Buñuel, Federico Fellini, Nestor Almendros, Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovski, among others”.
