Testimonial from Marlene, Photography and Video graduate from LABA Valencia

“I think where I’ve grown the most creatively over these years has been in finding my own voice.

Studying photography and video at LABA changed my whole perspective. Now I’m completely fascinated; it really opened my eyes. It definitely enriched my outlook on what I want to do.”

Marlene, guaduate from BAH en Fotografía y vídeo at LABA Valencia.

During her years at LABA Valencia, she worked alongside classmates and teachers from all over the world, an international environment that enriched the way she creates.

"My and my horny sisters", Marlene's final degree project short film

Her final degree project, “Me and My Horny Sisters”, is the result of a journey through which Marlene gradually found her own voice.

The short film is built around conversations with seven women of different generations and cultural backgrounds, from close friends to her grandmother. It combines interviews, visual fragments and scenes set in the “Red Room”, a performative space inspired by the world of Twin Peaks. Shot on Super 8 and VHS, the film turns food, bodily textures, liquids and gestures into a sensory, symbolic language that approaches desire indirectly.

“It was really beautiful to build this community where we all support each other. I’ve learned so much from my classmates.”

For Marlene, LABA Valencia is “a place for creative exploration.” Her advice for anyone just starting out: “Trust your instincts, trust yourself and trust the process. It will be worth it.”
