Interview with Francesc Ribes, professor at LABA Valencia

Meet the #LABAteam! Today we’d like to introduce you to Francesc Ribes, professor of the Lighting and Video Scene modules in the International Master in Multimedia Creation for Performing Arts and Live Shows, which starts in January 2022.

Francesc Ribes is co-director of Radiante. He works as a creator and producer of audiovisual and light art shows together with Manuel Conde, with a holistic vision of shows and live experiences. “Technology (videomapping, interactivity…) allows us to develop new universes by focusing on the experience of each person. We experiment with visual language, technology and the body.”

In the Video Scene and Video mapping module we will work using video and light projections on any surface, turning common objects into dynamic three-dimensional scenes, with effects that produce an immersive effect on the audience. This study will be carried out in its two aspects of video scene and video mapping as main elements of the scenic work. We will combine referential cases of the audiovisual in the performing arts with the practice of projection techniques.

In the Lighting Design module, students will be given tools to create and control lighting from a visual language, through experimentation with the luminaire and the use of the MADMAPPER software. We will review the references of scenic proposals in which lighting is one of the central elements, and we will experiment with non-conventional lighting, with the purpose of making lighting creation one of the protagonists of the play.
