Interview with Eduardo García Nieto, professor at LABA Valencia

Eduardo García Nieto has developed his practice in curatorial and educational projects. His research has focused on the political weight of the invisible with the CONCEALFROMYOUREYES project (La cannery Ceutí, Artium, La Sonrisa de la Ballesta and Bastero) or on the role of poetics in contemporary artistic practice (The LESS POETRY cycle in Artium or Perfect Vacuum in MUSAC). He has been the head of the Department of Education at the Montehermoso Kulturunea Cultural Center where he proposed, among other actions, the show Ayer y Hoy, a dialogue between the archive, city groups and contemporary artists. Currently he combines research projects with curating and teaching at #LABAValencia.

#LABAValencia is for me a reason for joy: an educational initiative, which is supported by work carried out for decades in Italy. Being part of a faculty like the one offered by LABA Valencia is a privilege. I want to contribute enthusiasm and growth, as in any project that is started, and continue learning together with both the students and the rest of the LABA team.

My UNIT, Contextual Studies, is an approach to the history of mechanical image capture – photography, film, video. These technologies not only changed our aesthetic and plastic perception, but also generated a social transformation in the ways of seeing and understanding the world. The course points out these changes and seeks to contextualize artistic practices with the thought that accompanied them.

As for authors, I am interested in the work of @showstudio@pilaralbarracin_artist, @gauecaofficial@ugorondinone0@jennyholzerstudio.
